#17. How can I let go of my guilt about
having radiant prosperity when others
are suffering and I know they can’t
afford my fees?
First let’s take a look at your guilt. Guilt about “having radiant prosperity when others are suffering” can only exist within the framework of your deeply held responsibility for other people’s lives. And that sense of responsibility points to a kind of narcissistic presumption that you are in charge of everything, which, of course, you are not.
While we are all deeply interconnected spiritually, the fact is that each of us makes critical decisions that guide our unique lives. Certainly our family and cultural/religious backgrounds can have a major impact on those choices. But you are certainly not responsible for the choices that have led to the suffering others experience and their inability to afford your fees.
First—Please allow your intelligence and the calling of your soul to move you to respect that other people are responsible for their choices and the lifestyles they’ve arranged for themselves. Allow them their own lives, their choices and consequences.
Second—In marketing your business, you’re not going to succeed if you imagine that everyone on the planet is a likely candidate for what you provide. That’s inflated. You can’t be all things to all people.
You must determine who you most want to work with—what intellectual, spiritual, social, and financial level of people best match who you are and what you provide. This is only fair to you, because you acknowledge and permit yourself to be as comfortable and competent as you can be interacting with your clients. This way they will receive the best of the benefits you provide.
Third—You are only responsible for what you can effect, what you can influence and change. Nothing more.
So please recognize and respect that, like all of us, you have limits. When you do, you can shape your business to serve those who will best advance and thrive due to your specific services or programs. That means you get to choose who you serve, not be at the mercy of whoever shows up.
Finally—It’s not at all helpful to your clients, or to the world at large, for you to go without. The world needs you to be a role model of what is possible. In fact, the world needs far more role models of ordinary people who have created very successful lives. To help those who are struggling it’s important that they see what it’s like when someone is living a life fully expressing their excellence. That is a spiritually grounded gift you can provide to all who meet and know you.
